Lafarge Moldova, a member of LafargeHolcim, the leading global building materials and solutions Company, has today inaugurated an Innovation Center in Chisinau, Moldova. The Center is part of LafargeHolcim’s international network of construction development labs, established to leverage the Group’s global experience and technical know-how to develop construction solutions adapted to the unique characteristics of local markets.
200 engineers work daily at the Group’s Lyon Research Center, looking for optimal solutions to anticipate and meet the expectations and needs of our customers to face the challenges of the 21st century. Their effort is already recognized through over 280 patents.
The new Innovation Center in Chisinau is the channel through which the modern solutions and technologies born in Lyon, reach the ultimate consumer.
Some solutions have already been cascaded into the market of Moldova. Here are some examples:
Our Vibro-Cylindrate Concrete solution for the construction of sustainable low cost roads compared to the classic solution can be seen in the 14 km of rural road in 5 districts of the country: Ocnita, Floresti, Straseni, Ialoveni and Comrat. This technical solution responds perfectly to the local needs.
Duramix is one of our modern technologies that is used to stabilize the soil in the preparation of road and civil foundations. This is a sustainable and cost-efficient solution versus the classic solution. In Moldova, Duramix was applied to stabilize the soil in the rehabilitation works of the Chisinau International Airport runways and the stabilization works for the foundation of the Orhei Free Economic Zone.
Another innovative solution developed by the Lyon Research Center and already present in Moldova, is the range of products under the brand Artevia. This is a collection of decorative concrete for interior and exterior use, combining design freedom with easy maintenance and durability. Artevia is an astonishing aesthetic decorative material that gives life to any location by vibrating colors and realism of textures, retaining at the same time all the characteristics of the concrete. Artevia surfaces can be admired today in many individual courtyards and the new parking area of the Rezina Cement Plant.
Some other solutions are about to be implemented: some of them are already in the bidding phase, others still have a way to go.
One of the solutions that is soon going to land in the Republic of Moldova is our Road Concrete, the perfect innovating solution for the construction of bus-stations and roundabouts and which has many advantages over the classic method. For example at high temperatures with frequent use of brakes and accelerators in heavy traffic, there are no deformations, and the material is resistant to the action of fuels or lubricants with a high degree of roughness so that even in conditions of rain it ensures safe driving conditions.
One of the top of the range solutions, that we want to bring to the market of the Republic of Moldova is Ductal®. Ductal® is a high-tech construction material (Ultra-High Performance Concrete - UHPC) with the superior qualities of resistance to compression. Ductility, longevity, eco-efficiency, insulation and aesthetics are also characteristics of this material.
Ductal® is used in a wide range of applications - from the most demanding structures, including bridges and roads, to the most creative architectural projects and cost-effective public and private buildings.
One of the solutions oriented to environmental protection, which LafargeHolcim can already provide today, is the ability to offer environmental services to municipalities, by co-processing and turning waste into alternative fuels and raw materials used in the cement manufacturing process.
This method, commonly used in the world to treat waste under controlled and safe conditions, has a large number of advantages:
1. waste disposal,
2. natural resource conservation,
3. reduction of gas emissions that would result if these wastes were treated by storage or incineration,
4. extending the life of land allocated for waste disposal and lower costs versus current ones for municipalities for waste management.
Lafarge Moldova is present on the local market since 1999, with activates in three locations: our Cement Plant in Rezina, the Innovation Center in Chisinau and our Cement Terminal in Comrat.
