Turcan Cazac Law Firm: Turcan Cazac Contributes to Doing Business in Moldova 2014

Chisinau, Moldova - On 21 February 2014, the conference Doing Business in Moldova: a roadmap to reform process to ease regulations, stimulate private investments assembled on its panel members of the business and legal community, representatives of the Government and international organizations as well as a range of other experts. The event reflected on the methodology and results of the Doing Business study and the best practices for achieving a better investment climate.

The conference was organized by the International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank Group, in partnership with the Embassy of Sweden to Chisinau and the Ministry of Economy of Moldova.

The firm associates were invited to participate in the conference due to their contribution to the development of Doing Business 2014 - Understanding regulations for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. In fact, Turcan Cazac has been a pro-bono contributor to Doing Business in Moldova since the inception of the country coverage in 2006.

In addition, Turcan Cazac associate Alexander Savva spoke on the fourth panel of the event Protecting investors - a must in attracting new inflows on behalf of the USAID Business Regulatory, Investment, and Trade Environment (BRITE) program. Currently, as part of USAID BRITE, Alexander Savva drafts amendments to the Moldovan Joint Stock Companies Law and drafts relevant laws on business permits and the supervision of entrepreneurs.

At the conference, Alexander Savva shed light on the reasons behind Moldova\'s improvement in the protecting investors category (that refers specifically to minority shareholders), as well as on transactions with conflicts of interest, the relevant regulations and issues in the area, and the squeeze-in as a measure to protect minority shareholders.

Other panels dealt with (1) opening borders for streamlined trade, the achievements in customs services and existing challenges; (2) ensuring construction quality with less procedures, as well as removing any discretion in the issuing construction permits, which should be an administrative matter; (3) electronic governance, recommending more agility in the government and establishing a one-stop shop for businesses via ICT.
