The Chamber for Commerce and Industry will issue ATA Carnets for temporary merchandise imports, also known as Merchandise Passports, starting with July 1.
According to the Head of the Economy Department within the Chamber for Commerce and Industry, Sergiu Harea, the Moldovan Chamber for Commerce and Industry became the 67th member of the international ATA system and issuer of ATA in Moldova.
“The price of an ATA Carnet for economic agents is not determined yet, but it will fluctuate around US$50-100. It depends on the price of the merchandise and destination”, he said.
According to Harea, the ATA Carnet simplifies the customs control and permits to refrain from paying the customs duty.
“This document is for those who participate in international exhibitions and concerts”, said Harea.
The Head of the Expert Department of the Chamber for Commerce, Nicolae Gaibu, among other advantages of ATA Carnet enumerated the reduction of customs costs, simplification of customs procedures by submitting a single document which replaces the national customs declarations for different categories of goods.
According to Gaibu, payment for additional financial transit securities or temporary imports will also be cancelled.
Moldova joined the Istanbul Convention on temporary import on July 26, 1990. Goods for temporary import or export that fall under ATA Carnet validity are commercial samples or goods that are meant to be presented at international exhibitions, fairs, conferences and other events, as well as professional equipment like computers, TV and radio equipment and musical instruments.
