Danube Logistics: We started the operation of our new Container and General Cargo Terminal at Giurgiulesti International Free Port

On January 11th Danube Logistics received the first container and general cargo vessel at is newly constructed container and general cargo terminal at Giurgiulesti International Free Port.  The Estonian vessel called MV Kalana has been chartered by Danube Logistics for its weekly service for the transportation of containers and general cargo between Giurgiulesti International Free Port and Marport near-by Istanbul in

Danube Logistics’ first client for its new services is the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s second largest container carrier. Thomas Moser, the Chairman of Danube Logistics SRL, stated on the occasion: “We are very pleased and proud that we were able to attract MSC, the second largest container shipping line in the world, to Giurgiulesti International Free Port. MSC will without a doubt provide an excellent service to Moldovan and international companies wishing to import or export containers to Moldova.

During its first call on Giurgiulesti International Free Port the vessel MV Kalana discharged a total of 141 containers for MSC. Over the weekend the ship is expected to sail to Istanbul with at least 23 MSC containers carrying Moldovan grain. The containers will ultimately be delivered by MSC to purchasers of the Moldovan grain in Taiwan.

ICS Danube Logistics SRL is the general investor and operator of Giurgiulesti International Free Port (GIFP) as well as the operator of the newly established weekly transportation service for containers and general cargo between Giurgiulesti and Istanbul. Besides the newly inaugurated container and general cargo, GIFP still consists of an oil product terminal, a grain terminal, a bulk cargo terminal as well as a business park. The construction of the general cargo and container terminal started in April 2010 and was implemented by aid of international and local construction companies and suppliers.
