The one to make the first video call in Moldova was the director of ANRCETI, Mr. Sergiu Sitnic and general manager of Ericsson Moldova, Mr. Ion Casian, within the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Ericsson Company The mobile telephony operator MOLDCELL announced publicly and demonstrated in practice its readiness, from the technical point of view, to offer mobile communication services of the third generation 3G. Therefore, the day of June 24, 2008 can be considered a new development stage of our information community, initiated by MOLDCELL. MOLDCELL company confirms its status of the leader in the implementation of new technologies in Moldova, and having launched 2G technologies for the first time (GPRS, Generic Packet Radio Services in December 2004; and EDGE, Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, or accelerated GPRS in June 2005), the operator is now technically ready to offer third-generation solutions 3G, which are already enjoyed by more than 300 million people all over the world (according to UMTS Forum report, end of 2007). The advantages of 3G technologies are: 1. It allows achieving a more rapid data transfer speed, which considerably saves time. For example, if a 100 MB film can be downloaded in approximately 60 minutes while using EDGE technology, the downloading of the same film by means of 3G technology will last for about 2 minutes! 2. If we compare the data transfer speeds achieved in real conditions by Moldovan Internet providers by means of the fixed ADSL network (2-4 Mbps) and the possibilities of data transfer by means of 3G mobile technology (approximately 7 Mbps), still more considerable advantages can be noticed time saving and greater mobility, since the client is no longer bound to his computer; 3. 3G technology incorporates video telephony service one of the most personalized mobile services. Communication becomes much more emotional, realistic and efficient, as one can see his interlocutor directly. In his greeting speech, MOLDCELL General Manager, Mr. Yusuf Baykan, mentioned the following: "We have made investments to bring to MOLDCELL clients services based on 3G technology prior to receiving the license. We had no doubts whether to do it or not because we sincerely believe that our clients deserve to use the most progressive and advanced technologies existing on the developed global markets.
