KPMG in Moldova to host a Business Forum

  • 29.09.2010

KPMG in Moldova is to host a Business Breakfast at Hotel Leogrand in Chisinau on Thursday 30 September from 9.30 a.m. The event will be attended numerous personalities from the Republic of Moldova, including the Prime Minister, the Governor of the National Bank, the vice-minister of Finance, top management of leading Moldovan and multinational companies as well as representatives of international financial institutions. Frank Dostalek, Chairman of KPMG in Central and Eastern Europe will be present, as well as Partners and Managers from KPMG’s Chisinau and Bucharest offices.

As Dostalek points out: “Moldova is an emergent market, and significant amounts could be available in international funding for development of the country’s infrastructure and other public sector projects. According to the conclusion of the Consultative Group for the Republic of Moldova, around 2 billion euros could be available from the international community and international financial institutions. So KPMG has set up a new Advisory Desk on the Public Sector, which aims to help Moldovan state institutions access these funds. The new desk will draw in the experience of the Bucharest office which for several years has been helping the Romanian public sector to gain funding from the EU and other sources.”

As Serban Toader, Senior Partner at KPMG in Romania and Moldova adds; “I’m also very pleased to announce the appointment of Bogdan Vlad as a new director of the Chisinau office. This new position reflects KPMG’s answer to the growing demand for our professional Audit, Tax and Advisory services. Many Moldovan companies are interested in the wide range of audit services which KPMG can provide, such as IFRS and US GAAP audits as well as audits using Moldovan auditing standards. A KPMG audit is carried out to rigorous standards, and so can act as a badge of quality, helping a company to present its financial situation in a transparent way to the markets, shareholders, creditors and the wider public. Bogdan will work closely with Alexandra Depoire, the Partner in Charge of our Chisinau office and Stela Corpacian, Audit Manager.

As Toader continues: “In 2001 the Chisinau office became affiliated with KPMG in Romania, reflecting the close cultural and economic ties between the two countries. It’s been a great pleasure to see how this KPMG office has grown and how our staff there have advanced in their careers. These are still challenging times globally, but I’m convinced that Moldova has great development potential. The wine industry is just one example of a sector which can be expected to grow, and Moldovan wines already have a reputation for quality worldwide. But there are many other potential development sectors such as agriculture and tourism. Moldova is in a strategic location with strong cultural and economic ties both with the EU and with Commonwealth of Independent States countries. This is why we have decided to expand our services in Moldova with the new Public Sector Advisory Department and the appointment of a new Audit Director.”

As Florin Banateanu, Director of the Public Sector Advisory department at KPMG in Romania, adds: “In view of the significant amounts of international financing which are about to come to Moldova, there is considerable potential for Public-Private Partnerships. In many countries, these have been the key to the success of large infrastructure development projects, drawing on public sector expertise and resources as well as private sector business acumen. We are keen to use our expertise from Romania and the entire region to help the Moldovan authorities to implement the infrastructure projects which the country needs and to achieve a high level of take-up of available funding”.

As Alexandra Depoire, Partner in Charge of KPMG’s Chisinau office concludes: “This event brings together a broad range of people with one common aim- to support economic growth and development of business in Moldova. I’m very much looking forward to taking part.”
