Ellation rebrands as Crunchyroll

  • 24.04.2020

Ellation, Chisinau’s dynamic tech company with Silicon Valley roots, announced that the company is in the process of rebranding to Crunchyroll.

Over the last three-plus years, the team (previously YOPESO, before its acquisition in January 2017) has been working on product and engineering initiatives for Crunchyroll and sister-brand VRV. Ellation, as a corporate brand name, was formerly known as a separate division within WarnerMedia that included Crunchyroll, VRV, and animation brand Rooster Teeth. The company decided to eliminate the Ellation name, to focus efforts on Crunchyroll’s robust 360-degree business -- which includes popular consumer brands KAZÉ, Anime Digital Network (in partnership with Citel, a subsidiary of Média-Participations), Anime on Demand, and Eye See Movies as part of Crunchyroll’s acquisition of (then known as) VIZ Media Europe Group in December 2019. VIZ Media Europe and VIZ Media Switzerland have recently been rebranded to Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll, the world’s most popular anime brand, connects anime and manga fans across 200+ countries and territories with 360-degree experiences. Fans in Moldova are spending more time enjoying anime -- below are the top titles from the first quarter of the year.

“Crunchyroll has always been the anchor of the Ellation portfolio -- and for many years, first as Yopeso and then under the Ellation brand -- our team in Moldova has been the beating heart of Crunchyroll’s technology efforts, creating and building the amazing product that we have in the market today. Rebranding the entire company as Crunchyroll is an acknowledgment of all of our teams’ hard work and commitment to building what is now the world’s most popular anime brand and a global top 10 streaming video service. None of this could have happened without our talented team in Moldova.” said Joanne Waage, GM of Crunchyroll.

“Most of our efforts have centered on building the best experiences for Crunchyroll's passionate community, and it makes sense to have our brand more connected with the amazing product,” said Dan Denuta, Managing Director and Facilities Manager of Crunchyroll’s Moldova office.
“Our company is based on Silicon Valley culture and with that, we will continue to ensure the best working experience for our colleagues, so they can deliver their best performance. During these changes, we are ready to expand and accept new challenges to keep engaged in with our global team.”

Newly rebranded Crunchyroll company will continue to support local tech communities. The educational programs and projects as Coderdojo, GirlsGoIT, EduTolk, and more, will continue helping local tech communities develop their fullest potential.

“Moldova is a small country, and being part of the Crunchyroll team is a great opportunity for all tech enthusiasts and professionals in the local market,” said Elena Ivanova, Managing Director and Sr. HRBP (human resources business partner) of the Crunchyroll office in Moldova. “We are delighted to serve the growing anime community and are happy to take care of all our colleagues with the best work culture and benefits.”
