AmCham Moldova Engages in Public Consultations on Waste Management Regulations

  • 31.01.2025

Between January 28-30, AmCham Moldova actively participated in a series of public consultation meetings organized by the Ministry of Environment, aimed at improving regulations on the management of end-of-life tires, used oils, end-of-life vehicles, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), batteries and accumulators, as well as packaging and packaging waste.

These consultations represent an important step in shaping a balanced regulatory framework that meets both environmental requirements and the needs of the private sector. Key topics discussed included:

  • The progressive increase of collection, recycling, and recovery targets for waste, while maintaining the objectives set for 2025;
  • The regulation of a deposit system for batteries and accumulators, designed to encourage greater responsibility among both end-users and distributors by increasing the deposit fee from 10% to 20%;
  • The implementation of clearer criteria to differentiate product placement on the market based on usage type: professional, personal, and commercial.

AmCham Moldova remains an active partner in the dialogue between the business community and public authorities, supporting initiatives that contribute to the development of an efficient and sustainable waste management system, benefiting both the economy and environmental protection.
