On 06 of October, the Grain Transshipment Terminal located within the Giurgiulesti International Free Port (GIFP) will receive the first three vessels, and namely: “KAPTAN ADEM” to be loaded with 1850 tons of barley, “Spadina” to be loaded with 3,250 tons of barley and “Richmond” to be loaded with 3300 tons of wheat. Throughout October, about 25,000 tons of wheat and barley will be loaded on several vessels and exported to Mediterranean countries. The Grain Terminal was built by SC “Trans Cargo Terminal” SRL in cooperation with ICS “Danube Logistics” SRL, the general investor in GIFP. The capacity of the terminal allows it to receive up to 3,000 metric tons per day of cereals by means of railway and road transportation, but also to load maritime vessels with a capacity of up to 7,000 metric tons, with a loading speed of 300 metric tons per hour. The Terminal will integrally satisfy the demand of the Republic of Moldova in transshipment of cereals for export. The laboratory of the terminal is supplied with the most modern equipment, while the total storage capacity of the Terminal is 50,000 tons. The total investments made in the project amounts to 17 million US Dollars. Whereas Trans Cargo Terminal invested in the grain storage, grain loading facilities and the laboratory, Danube Logistics constructed the berth for maritime/river vessels, the rail and road connections, the utilities and a 110 kv power substation in support of the project.
